 João Dias Ferreira  was born in Lisbon in 1988. He began studying piano in 1994. His interest in jazz and improvised music started with Professor Jorge Lee at the Interartes music school. In 2010 he joined the Luiz Villas-Boas Music School of the Hot Clube de Portugal. During the last year of the course, he represented the school in the national competition of jazz schools at the Teatro S. Luís Jazz Festival, and participates at the international meeting of jazz schools in Atina, Italy, directed by Finnish saxophonist Pekka Pylkkanen.
He was admitted to the Jazz Course at Lisbon's Escola Superior de Música em 2014. There, he has the opportunity to study with professors João Paulo Esteves da Silva, Afonso Pais, Nelson Cascais, João Moreira, Pedro Moreira, Maria João Granja, Lars Arens, among others.
Throughout his artistic career, he won the Rock Rendez Worten contest with the group Chapa Dux, which resulted in the recording of an album and a performance at the SXSW festival in Austin, Texas; invitations to the international jazz competition in Frosinone, Italy in 2016, and to the international competition of the Trebujena Festival, Spain in 2018, where he participates with the Nebuchadnezzar Group. With the same group, in September 2019, he performed live at the Camões Auditorium for the national radio station Antena 2.
Between 2019 and 2020 he lived in Croatia where he had the opportunity to play with musicians such as Borko Rupena, Darko Misirača, Kruno Levačić, Saša Nestorović, Grgur Savić, among others. Staying in the Balkan region and interacting with musicians from different backgrounds deepens his knowledge of the area's music and serves as inspiration for much of his work as a composer.
He has performed in theaters and festivals such as Casa da Música do Porto, Teatro São Luíz, Teatro da Trindade, Festival Musa (Cascais), Festival Sudoeste (Zambujeira do Mar), Festival Positive Vibes (Gaia), Rototom Sunsplash (Benicassim, Spain) , SXSW (Austin, USA) Hot Clube de Portugal, Museu do Traje (Jazz at the Museu do Traje de S.
