ABOUT
João Dias Ferreira is a pianist, composer, sound artist and music teacher based in Lisbon whose interests span across several fields, including jazz, ethno-jazz, film scoring, and interdisciplinary media arts.

He holds a BA in Music – Piano Jazz from ESML (Escola Superior de Musica de Lisboa) and a postgraduate degree in Composition and Music Production for Film from the Lusófona University in Lisbon. After completing a Film Scoring Summer Program of Film Scoring Academy of Europe, he enrolled in and is currently pursuing a PhD in Media Arts and Communication at the Lusófona University, where his practice-based research focuses on the concept of the hybrid score.
From 2019 to 2020, João lived in Croatia, where he studied and drew inspiration from Balkan music while collaborating with local musicians. This cross-cultural work culminated in a series of arrangements for an ethno-jazz quartet, which is currently touring in Portugal as Džezva.

His extensive performance and recording career spans various genres, including:

Together with visual artist Marta Fiolić, João co-founded εntropiα an artistic collective dedicated to the exploration and fusion of sound, music, and image with a strong social and community focus.
